Bringing AbortionData.org to the UN: Defending the Right to Information in a Digital Age at CSW70
Last week was a milestone for Viva Futura. For the first time, we were invited to speak at a site event at the United Nations

Last month, AbortionData.org by Viva Futura joined the Latin American Consortium against Unsafe Abortion (CLACAI) in Bogotá. We experienced two intense days of connection, conversation, and co-creation. We reconnected with longtime allies, met new partners, and found inspiration in the collective power of Latin America’s reproductive justice movement.
But most importantly, we had the privilege of presenting our new digital course for changemakers: Facing Abortion Stigma with Data. The course is designed for activists, educators, and everyone who wants to transform the way abortion is understood, discussed, and narrated.
“When activists control the data, we control the narrative”, says public health expert and Viva Futura spokesperson Paula Pinzón Hernández, who presented the course at the conference. Paula demonstrated how data can challenge stigma and, when used intentionally, become an opportunity to create new, truthful, and humane narratives about abortion. She guided participants through the ways data can be used to misinform, the importance of gaining this knowledge which serves as a catalyst for social change.
Facing Abortion Stigma with Data is an immersive learning experience that invites participants to explore the power of data as a tool for truth-telling, narrative shifting, and social transformation.
Participants explore how abortion stigma operates at personal, social, and structural levels. They learn how evidence, when paired with empathy, becomes a radical act of care.
Whether you’re an activist, designer, educator, doula, communicator, or simply someone seeking to engage more deeply in this conversation, this course is for you.
You’ll explore your own relationship with abortion, identify stigmatizing discourses, and develop strategies for using data to counter myths, challenge disinformation, and advocate for dignity and rights.

AbortionData.org is part of the CLACAI network. Together, we build something larger than a single event: a global feminist movement. We carry the learnings of the 2025 conference in Bogota beyond borders, working to spark change wherever abortion stigma continues to limit people’s rights, autonomy, and dignity.
Paula Pinzón Hernández is a public health expert with a Master’s in Public Health and a PhD in Women’s Health from the University of British Columbia. She has more than ten years of experience in sexual and reproductive health, with a special focus on knowledge translation for decision-making. She is a collaborator of AbortionData, a consultant for Fos Feminista, and Colombia Country Lead and research associate at Vitala Global. Yes, she rocks!
